We start this list with two festivals that began during the month of October, both of which are held in Rome. Two more reasons to vistit Rome in November. And then we add in Bologna, and that's not baloney.
I don't think that I have to introduce Rome. From September 26 to November 25 the Eternal City hosts the RomaEuropa Festival, devoted to music, dance, and theatre. This will give you just one more reason to visit during the "off-season". For more information consult the Italian-language website http://romaeuropa.net/festival.html . The English-language button at the top of the screen didn't work the last time I tried it.
But that's not all the music in Rome during the Fall season. From October 26 to November 6 the Eternal City also hosts the Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra. Do you need a translation? The performances are held in several Papal Basilicas. For more information consult http://www.festivalmusicaeartesacra.net/en/programm.php .
Bologna, the capital of the northern region of Emilia-Romagna is well known for its gastronomy. From October 5, 2012 to March 23, 2013 it hosts over seventy concerts. Headliners include Jennifer Lopez and Justin Bieber. For more information consult http://www.songkick.com/metro_areas/30285-italy-bologna?page=1 . J. B. is on the next page and it's probably not too soon to make your reservations.
The town of Taormina on the eastern coast of Sicily (Ionian Sea) has been a tourist magnet since the Nineteenth Century. Further south on the coast is the historic city of Catania. In between the two is Mount Etna. While November, 2012 has no official festival there are lots of musical activities in the two cities running from the 2nd to the 30th of the month and continuing well into December. Turin (the Italians call it Torino) is the capital of The Piedmont, the Italian auto industry, and from November 8 to November 11 the home of the Club to Club Festival 2012, Turin , making it the capital of contemporary art, visual performance and music with more than 25,000 people from all over Italy and abroad. Levi Reiss has authored or co-authored ten books on computers and the Internet, but to be honest, he would rather just drink fine Italian or other wine, accompanied by the right foods. He teaches classes in computers at an Ontario French-language community college. Visit his website www.travelitalytravel.com devoted to Italian travel with an accent on fine Italian wine and food. Visit his central wine website www.theworldwidewine.com with weekly reviews of $10 wine and columns devoted to various aspects of wine including wine and food, humor, trivia, organic and kosher wine and lots more.
