Liguria is the Italian Riviera. Its capital, Genoa, is a major European port and the alleged birthplace of Christopher Columbus provides lots of musical attractions virtually year round. During the late February to early March the Giovine Orchestra Genovese (Genoa Youth Orchestra)performs four concerts including Gounod's Opera Romeo and Juliet from Febrary 24 to March 4. The lovely city of San Remo is a major tourist destination on the Italian Riviera. The Sanremo Music Festival is Europe's oldest music fesival, starting in 1951. This is the place where many of Italy's top pop music performers made their name. It will run from February 14 to February 18, 2012. I can't think of a better place to celebrate Valentine's Day.
