The Cannaregio district is the largest of Venice’s six districts, locally known as sestiere. It’s in the east of Venice and, unlike some of the others, people actually live there. This is the least touristy part of Venice, which may be an attraction for many. The area includes many historic churches. For your convenience we have listed these hotels in approximate order of cost, starting with the least expensive. The Ca’ Gottardi Hotel is situated in a Fifteenth Century palace. It’s located just off the Grand Canal near the Ca' d'Oro. Breakfast is served in a lovely room overlooking a canal. The Hotel Antico Doge Cannaregio.
The Hotel Antico Doge has an extensive history that you can read about on their website. Suffice it to say that this was the palazzo of a Venetian Doge. The neighborhood is lively, even at night. Make sure to look up at the frescoed ceiling when enjoying your breakfast buffet. There are 10 rooms, 9 junior suites, and 1 suite. The hotel address is Campo Santi Apostoli, Cannaregio 5643. The Palazzo Abadessa.
The Palazzo Abadessa is located in a luxurious Sixteenth Century palazzo. This is one posh joint, so you may have to watch the kiddies because the antique furniture and exquisite fabrics are just about everywhere. In the summer breakfast is served in a walled garden.
