The Fiera – San Siro area of western Milan used to host the Fiera Campionaria, the Milan Trade Fair which has largely relocated to the outlying cities of Rho and Pero. Some fair attractions remain under the name Fieramilanocity. This elegant area boasts many head offices and the Meazza Stadium, also known as San Siro Stadium, home to Milan’s soccer team originally built in 1926. It now has a capacity of 85,000 and hosts a great museum dedicated to the Inter and Milan teams. The Anthropological Museum has a great collection of religious objects collected by missionaries in the Far East. You’ll also want to visit the Arco della Pace, a triumphal gate located at Piazza Sempione, built in 1807 to celebrate Napoleon’s victories and finished some three decades later for the coronation of Ferdinando I as King of Lombardy-Venetia. The nearby bronze Chariot of Peace originally faced France, but when Milan was ceded to Austria, it was turned to face the city center. The neighborhood includes the Corso Vercelli shopping area with boutiques and department stores. The short Via Belfiore specializes in shoes, and Milan is a great place for shoes. For your convenience we have listed neighborhood hotels in approximate order of cost, starting with the least expensive.
